A Santa Fe County sheriff’s deputy was killed in October 2014 at a Las Cruces hotel by a fellow deputy, and the two had been drinking, according to police.

Santa Fe County deputies Jeremy Martin and Tai Chan were staying the night at Hotel Encanto after extraditing a prisoner to Stafford, Arizona.

Las Cruces police said the two visited Dublin’s Street Pub, where they had an argument. The two returned to the hotel around midnight.

Police said the argument escalated and Chan fired several gunshots at Martin.

Martin was attempting to flee to an elevator when he was shot. Police said Martin was shot in the back.

An autopsy showed that he was shot five times.
