The little girl known as ‘Baby Doe’ was killed in her bedroom by Michael McCarthy, her mother’s boyfriend – a man who was convinced the toddler was possessed by demons, a prosecutor told a Boston courtroom.
Bella Bond, 2, who became known as ‘Baby Doe’, was found by a dog-walker in a trash bag on Deer Island in Boston Harbor.
Her Mother, Rachelle Bond, was charged as an accessory after the fact and and Bond’s boyfriend, Michael McCarthy, was charged with murder.
Horrifying details about the girl’s short life and death have been revealed.
Assistant District Attorney David Deakin told a Dorchester District Court judge that a ‘lifelong friend’ of McCarthy’s broke the case open. The friend told authorities that he had lived with Bond and McCarthy for a week or two just several months before her death, and was ‘appalled by their treatment’ of Bella.
McCarthy, 35, is being held without bond and Bond, 40, is being held on $1 million bail.
Rachelle Bond pleaded guilty to helping dispose of her daughter’s body. As part of a plea agreement with prosecutors where she pleaded guilty to being an accessory after the fact, Bond has agreed to testify against McCarthy.
McCarthy has denied killing the girl. His lawyer has said Bond told McCarthy that Bella was taken away by the state Department of Children and Families.
