Johnny Depp vs Amber Heard Trial

Johnny Depp claims that a 2018 article in The Washington Post written by Amber Heard implied that Depp, her former husband, was an abuser.

The article was titled: ‘I spoke up against sexual violence – and faced our culture’s wrath. That has to change’.

In the article she spoke about domestic violence towards women. 35-year-old Heard, who divorced Depp in 2017, did not name Depp but his lawyers claim Heard’s allegations have made it difficult for the 58-year-old to land acting roles he previously did.

Depp is asking for $50m in damages. Heard has filed a $100m counterclaim of defamation against Depp for nuisance.

Lawyers for Heard are expected to use Virginia’s anti-Slapp law during the trial which allows a person to claim protection from a lawsuit when speaking about issues of public concern.
