Police have identified the five people who were killed this morning in an area known as Africa in the March Pen Road community in Spanish Town, St Catherine.
They are two-year-old Koyandra Wynter, nine-year-old Revaughn Evans, 14-year-old Marvin Campbell Jr, Venisha Bartley, 22 and Salesha Evans, 24.
The police said they transported a 14-year-old female and a 25-year old male, who received gunshot wounds, to hospital, where they were admitted.
The five, who are members of one family, were killed after gunmen invaded their tenement yard and opened fire before setting a house on fire. The fire then spread to three other houses. Police were unable to say all the victims were burnt but could not say if they were shot before being burnt.
The police are reporting that about 1:30 a.m. a team on patrol responded to heavy gunfire in the area. On arrival a number of heavily armed men were seen at the location. The men engaged the police in a shoot-out but managed to escape in the area.
Two persons were seen with gunshot wounds and four houses ablaze. The Spanish Town Fire Department was alerted and quickly extinguished the blaze. Following which, the charred remains of five persons were found in the burnt out premises
The police have not yet determined a motive for this incident. However, they are seeking Marvin Campbell Sr, otherwise called ‘Fat Man’ who is wanted for Incest, and is now a person of interest in this matter as well as a triple murder that occurred in Spanish Town recently.
He is being asked to make himself available to detectives at the Spanish Town CIB by 12:00 midday tomorrow.
Persons knowing the whereabouts of Marvin Campbell Sr are being asked to call the police at 119, 811, 984-2874 or the nearest police station. They can also call Crime Stop at 311. Information may also be sent using the Stay Alert app.
