William Mozingo Jr is charged with kidnapping, felonious assault, abduction and strangulation for an attack on Chloe Jones. Following a call to the police, Akron police surrounded a shed in Kenmore in South West Akron, Ohio on October 16, 2023. It was where Mozingo had kept Jones locked up for four days until Mozingo was discovered by the garage's owner, who called police and told the dispatcher that Mozingo was a violent offender who had escaped from a community correctional facility about six weeks previously. Police body camera video captured the moment of Mozingo's arrest and the rescue of the then 23-year-old Chloe Jones. Jones and Mozingo were acquaintances, according to police, who said Mozingo abducted her after offering her a ride home. Instead of taking her home, he allegedly drove her to the outdoor shed, where he kept her locked up in a partially hidden hole in the ceiling. Jones was beaten with a baseball bat, tied up, doused with gasoline and threatened to be lit on fire. Jones was not allowed bathroom breaks and was choked multiple times while being told if she passed out that he would cut her throat. Mozingo was arrested and charged with assault, unlawful restraint, kidnapping, abduction, parole violation and escape. After being rescued by the police, Jones spent three days in ICU with facial fractures, brain bleed, a broken arm and fingers. Mozingo had been in prison three times for abduction in 2011, 2014 and 2019 and had also held a woman at knifepoint in a Walmart bathroom in 2017. |
