This case is a defamation case brought by former Mount Carmel doctor Willim Husel who claims that hospital executives and corporate leaders at Ohio's Mount Carmel Health System and Trinity Health orchestrated a false media campaign that led to his 2019 indictment on 25 counts of murder for giving patients who he claims were dying the painkiller fentanyl to make them feel more comfortable. The patients in question all eventually died. Although prosecutors later dropped 11 of those charges, Husel was acquitted of the remaining 14 charges in 2022. He filed the defamation suit while still under indictment, alleging that hospital executives, including former CEO Edward Lamb, hired public relations firms to portray him as a 'killer' to shield the hospital from blame. Husel's legal team maintains their client provided compassionate care and was wrongly targeted in a 'ruthless smear campaign'. |
