Tanner Horner, a former FedEx driver is charged with kidnapping and killing 7-year-old Wise County, Texas girl Athena Strand. Horner is charged with capital murder in her death and could face the death penalty if convicted. Horner is accused of kidnapping Athena Strand from the front yard of her father's home, strangling her and then dumping her body several miles away. Athena was at her family's Paradise home with her stepmother on the afternoon of November 30, 2022 when the two got into a small argument. When her stepmother later went to check on Athena in her bedroom, the little girl was missing. She looked for Athena for about an hour before calling 911. The next day, hundreds of volunteers gathered to search for her. It wasn't until the following evening, on December 2, 2022, that her body was found in a wooded area near Boyd. The Wise County Sheriff's Office received a tip to look into Horner, a FedEx contract delivery driver who had made a delivery at Athena's home around the time she went missing. Horner, who lived in Lake Worth, confessed to killing Athena. He told police that he struck Strand with his delivery van while backing up. He allegedly kidnapped her and strangled her out of fear that she would tell her father about the incident. Horner later led authorities to where he had left her body. |
