Timothy Batts allegedly shot and killed his 11-year-old daughter, Timea, in their Sumner County home in August 2016.
On August 8, Timea Batts was shot shortly after arriving home from her first day of sixth grade at Knox Doss Middle School in Hendersonville.
Timothy Batts took his eldest daughter to nearby Hendersonville Medical Center. She was then transported via LifeFlight to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, where she died of a gunshot wound to the torso.
Batts told detectives he thought Timea was an intruder when she came in while he was sleeping. However, police claim they have surveillance video of Batts walking around the home with a gun before she came home.
He has pleaded not guilty to charges of reckless homicide, tampering with evidence, felon in possession of a firearm and filing a false report.
