Ex-Officer Philip Brailsford is charged with second-degree murder in the death of Daniel Shaver, who authorities say Brailsford shot and killed on January 18, 2016.
The shooting occurred as officers faced a high-risk situation when guests reported a man pointing a rifle out of the window of a Mesa hotel.
Brailsford has pleaded not guilty and maintains he opened fire out of fear that Shaver was reaching for a gun as Shaver was laying on the ground.
Footage of the incident exists from the body cameras worn by the responding officers.
Brailsford has since been fired from the force.
