Janet Hinds is charged in the February 2019 traffic death of rookie Chattanooga Police officer Nicholas Galinger.
Hinds is facing 10 charges, including vehicular homicide by intoxication, leaving the scene of an accident and failure to render aid.
38-year-old Officer Galinger graduated from the police academy one month before he was killed. He was struck and killed as he and his field training officer were inspecting an overflowing manhole cover on a darkened road.
An arrest report alleges Hinds was speeding when the 55-year-old hit a public works sign before hitting Galinger and driving away.
The officers were not wearing reflective vests and their vehicle’s emergency lights were not activated at the time but the Chattanooga Police Department said the officer’s were following department policy due to the type of call they were on.
