The Supreme Court of Georgia is the highest judicial authority of the US state of Georgia. The court was established in 1845. In 2017 the justice panel was increased to nine members. The panel are elected by the people those elections are non-partisan.

Jan 9 Jackson v. The State (S16g0888)
A convicted sex offender is appealing a ruling by the Georgia Court of Appeals that upheld his conviction in Houston County for failing to register as a sex offender. He argues the indictment was defective and therefore the judge should have directed a verdict in his favor.
Jan 9 Resurgens Orthopaedics, Et Al. v. Elliott (S16g1214)
In this Fulton County medical malpractice case, an orthopedic surgeon and his medical practice are appealing a Georgia Court of Appeals decision, arguing the appellate court was wrong to reverse a jury’s verdict in their favor and order a new trial.
Jan 9 the State v. Riggs (S16g1166)
The State is appealing a ruling by the Georgia Court of Appeals that threw out the sentences of a man who pleaded guilty in Chatham County to multiple child sexual offenses involving his 12-year-old daughter.
Jan 9 Clayton County v. City of College Park Et Al. (S17a00076)
Clayton County is appealing a superior court ruling that was in favor of the City of College Park, which sued the County for failing to give it half of all alcohol tax revenue collected at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport. The City claims the County owes it about $2.5 million collected during the last 30 years.

A group of taxpayers are appealing a Fulton County court’s dismissal of all but one piece of their lawsuit, in which they claim that the Georgia statute establishing a K-12 tax credit scholarship program is unconstitutional because it allows the use of public tax funds for private religious schools

Three Georgia obstetrician-gynecologists are appealing a Fulton County court ruling dismissing their challenge of a state law that prohibits most abortions after 20 weeks of pregnancy. The physicians argue the law is unconstitutional.

Two Roswell property owners are appealing a Georgia Court of Appeals decision dismissing their appeal in a zoning related matter because they failed to follow proper procedure.
Jan 24 United Health Services of Georgia, Inc. Et Al. v. Norton Et Al. (S16g1143)
PruittHealth, Inc. is appealing a Georgia Court of Appeals decision allowing a man’s wrongful death lawsuit on behalf of his deceased wife to proceed in court against one of its nursing homes, even though his wife had signed an arbitration agreement when she entered the home. Arbitration is a means for resolving civil disputes outside the courts.

A company is appealing a Georgia Court of Appeals decision, arguing it should have received more than $105,000 in excess funds resulting from a tax sale of two properties whose owner failed to pay ad valorem property taxes.

Jan 24 Imran Rasheed v. Maryam Sarwat (S17f0168)
In this Gwinnett County case, a man is appealing the Final Judgment and Decree of his divorce, arguing he never agreed to the terms of the Settlement Agreement. Under legislation passed in 2016, future divorce appeals will be handled by the lower appellate court, the Georgia Court of Appeals.
