Police hunt suspect in murder of TAO woman

Weerayapa Ngamwilai

THAILAND: PATHUM THANI – Police are seeking an arrest warrant for a man they suspect murdered a woman, who appeared to have been married the previous day, in her car on Tuesday.

Pol Col Amnuayphan Nilnoi, chief of Khlong 5 police station, said on Thursday that investigators will use CCTV footage as evidence for the Thanya Buri Provincial Court to approve an arrest warrant for a man aged between 45 and 50.

The person, whose name is being withheld, is a prime suspect in the murder of Weerayapa Ngamwilai, an official of the Bueng Cham Or Tambon Organisation Administration (TAO) in Khlong Luang district of this province on Tuesday.

Weerayapa was shot twice and died in her sedan while she was driving home. Police have questioned several witnesses and believe that she was killed by a man who knew her and sat beside her at the time.

A marriage certificate tainted with blood stains was also found in the car. The paper, issued by the Thanya Buri district office, was dated March 13, 2017, the day before she died.

Her husband, Pairote Pitipantarat, told police that she could have been killed due to a personal conflict, according to Thai Post.

Besides working as a TAO official, Weerayapa, 36, also held another job as a second-hand car dealer.

Police have not ruled out a business conflict as a motive but are now inclined to consider a personal relationship after investigators dug deeper into the case.

The suspect was said to have known her well and footage of a closed circuit camera at a tollway booth captured him at 1.18pm on the day she died, Pol Col Amnuayphan said. The direction of the vehicle was to the crime scene, he added.

Investigators have been divided into several teams to hunt him as they believe he is staying with a cousin in one of the three locations in Chon Buri, Ayutthaya or Kanchanaburi, according to the chief investigator.

The man and his close aide drove the car seen in the footage to Ayutthaya after the killing as another piece of evidence showed he made a stop to withdraw cash from an ATM in that province, he added.

Weerapaya’s mother, Banyen, gave more information to police at Khlong 5 station on Thursday to zero in on the suspect and she was ordered not to talk to the press as Pol Col Amnyauphan feared that this could affect the hunt.
