Ashleigh Banfield has been one of my favorite newscasters since the good old days of Court TV, so it was with great sadness I learned that CNN has moved her over to the junior varsity team at HLN. On the bright side, she is slated to host a prime time show described as a “unique brand of social and legal issues.”
With Nancy Grace being put out to pasture retiring in October, this means that we will be seeing more of the lovely and intelligent Banfield, arguably the best thing to come out of Canada since Peter Jennings.
“It is really tough to tell you I am going to be leaving,” she said, after being with CNN since 2011. But she looked forward to the move, saying she’ll be “joining my friends” who have been shifted over to HLN as that network undergoes yet another re-branding. The new show will air live, Monday through Thursday, 8–9 PM ET, and will premiere on Monday, October 17.
In the clip below, Ashleigh devotes a segment of her show to reading a letter written by the victim in the Stanford Rape Case .
