Juliana Peres Magalaes

Brazilian Juliana Peres Magalaes pleaded guilty to manslaughter for shooting and killing 39-year-old Joseph Ryan on February 24, 2023 inside the home where she worked as an au pair. Prosecutors said the shooting was part of a larger plot conspired between Peres Magalhaes and her employer 39-year-old Brendan Banfield to kill Banfield’s wife Christine. The 37-year-old was allegedly stabbed to death by her husband. Brendan Banfield was found guilty of all charges, including two counts of aggravated murder. A sexual relationship between Peres Magalhaes and Banfield began in August 2023. Banfield used to a sex fetish website and 'settled on Joseph Ryan' to lure him to the Herndon, Virginia home on February 24, 2023. It is likely Ryan thought he was going to the home for a violent sexual foreplay. Magalhaes was arrested in Oct. 2023 for the death of Ryan. Brendan was arrested nearly a year later in Sept. 2024 for the deaths of Christine and Ryan. As part of her plea deal, the Magalhaes charges were downgraded to manslaughter. While she could be sentenced to as little as time served, she faces up to 10 years in prison.
