Paul Caneiro

Paul J. Caneiro is charged in the murders of his brother, sister-in-law and their two young children in Colts Neck, New Jersey on November 21, 2018. Authorities say Paul Caneiro committed the murders after his brother and business partner Keith, discovered that he was stealing from the companies they co-owned. Prosecutors allege that Caneiro murdered his brother, Keith, 50, sister-in-law, Jennifer, 45, niece, Sophia, 8, and nephew, Jesse, 11, and then set their Colts Neck mansion on fire and also set his own home in Ocean Township on fire to throw off investigators and make it look like the entire Caneiro clan was being targeted by violent criminals. Hours after the fire was reported at Paul Caneiro's home, emergency personnel were summoned to Keith Caneiro's mansion for a slow-burning blaze. There, they found Keith Caneiro's body on the front lawn of the sprawling estate. He had been shot four times in the head and once in the back. Inside the home, police found the bodies of Jennifer Caneiro and the two children. All were repeatedly stabbed and badly burned. Jennifer Caneiro had also been shot in the head. In addition to four counts of murder, Caneiro is charged with two counts of arson, theft of more than $75,000 from his brother's family and insurance fraud for allegedly collecting disability benefits after a car accident while continuing to work and having his paycheck issued to his wife.
