Christa Pike

Christa Gail Pike is the only woman on death row in Tennessee. She was convicted of the torture and murder of Colleen Slemmer in Knoxville in 1995. A judge is set to review the planned execution of Christa Pike, which is currently scheduled to take place in September 2026. Prosecutors said Pike tortured and killed Slemmer on the University of Tennessee Agriculture campus after she thought Slemmer was trying to steal her boyfriend. Pike's attorneys say she 'will be forced to relive her past traumatic experiences of sexual violence when the execution team forcibly extracts her from her cell, holds and straps her down to a gurney, and attempts to find a vein for the lethal injection drugs'. Pike's attorneys filed a motion in June challenging the constitutionality of the state's lethal injection protocol after the failed execution of Tony Carruthers.
