Alexis Avila is accused of abandoning her newborn baby in a dumpster. Avila was 18 years old when she allegedly left her newborn with its umbilical cord still attached, wrapped in a towel and in a trash bag, in a mall dumpster on January 7, 2022. Surveillance video provided by Rig Outfitters and Home Store allegedly shows Alexis Avilla abandoning her newborn in a dumpster. A group of people looking to salvage valuable trash items found the child and called 911. Surveillance footage captured the entire incident. Authorities say the baby, who survived, had been in the dumpster for six hours in 36-degree weather. The surveillance video led police to Avila, who was seen driving up and throwing a bag into the container. Avila is charged with attempted first-degree murder and child abuse.
