Tony 'TJ' Wiggins Jr is accused of the brutal on 17 July 2020 triple homicide of three friends during a night fishing trip at Lake Streety in Frostproof, Polk County Florida. Wiggins is accused of fatally shooting Brandon Rollins, 28, Keven Springfield, 30, and Damion Tillman, 23 faces and faces three counts of first-degree murder, and one count each of tampering with evidence and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Wiggins knew the victims, who were longtime friends. The victims had met in Frostproof when Wiggins pulled up on the men, walked over to Springfield and accused him of stealing his truck before opening fire on them. A store clerk heard Tillman say they were going fishing, and also identified TJ Wiggins, his brother Robert Wiggins and TJ's girlfriend, Mary Clare Whittemore, as also being in the store just before the murders. During the investigation Robert Wiggins admitted to being present during the shootings and that he drove a truck carrying himself, TJ Wiggins and Whittemore until they encountered the three men. Prosecutors allege TJ Wiggins confronted the victims about a missing truck and repeatedly demanded, 'Where's my truck?' before punching Springfield and opening fire into the victim's vehicles. Robert Wiggins was charged with three courts of accessory after the fact in a capital felony and one court of tampering with physical evidence. It was likely that Robert Wiggins will testify against his older brother in exchange for a plea agreement of a five-year prison sentence. A judge denied a request by Robert to withdraw his plea agreement. While in custody Robert Wiggins was charged in a drug smuggling case in which jail visitors were passing him drugs hidden in a pair of shoes. Mary Whittemore pleaded guilty to 3 counts of accessory after a capital felony and 1 count of perjury and was sentenced to 48 months in prison. She was released from state custody in October 2024. |
