Sheriff Will Lewis is accused of statutory misconduct in office, perjury, misconduct of a public officer and obstruction of justice. The charges stem from Lewis' association with his former assistant, Savannah Nabors, who filed a civil lawsuit against him in October 2017. The lawsuit accused Lewis of sexual assault and sexual harassment in connection with a business trip to Charlotte in March 2017. A settlement was reached in October 2018 in the civil lawsuit.
