Falcon 9 is a two-stage rocket designed and manufactured by SpaceX for the reliable and safe transport of satellites and the Dragon spacecraft into orbit. Inspiration4 is the world’s first all-commercial astronaut mission to orbit.
Jared Isaacman, founder and CEO of Shift4 Payments, is donating the three seats alongside him aboard Dragon to individuals from the general public. The Inspiration4 crew will receive commercial astronaut training by SpaceX on the Falcon 9 launch vehicle and Dragon spacecraft, orbital mechanics, operating in microgravity, zero gravity, and other forms of stress testing.
They will go through emergency preparedness training, spacesuit and spacecraft ingress and egress exercises, as well as partial and full mission simulations.
The Crew Dragon spacecraft will remain in a 540 km high orbit for three days before reentering Earth’s atmosphere for a soft water landing off the coast of Florida.
The crew are Jared Isaacman (an American businessman and pilot), Hayley Arceneaux (a St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital employee, bone cancer survivor and private astronaut who is now a physician assistant. She will serve as the crew’s Chief Medical Officer. She will also be the first person to launch with a prosthesis), Sian Proctor (an American explorer, scientist, STEM communicator, and aspiring astronaut), and Chris Sembroski (an aerospace worker at Lockheed Martin).
