Arriving 45 minutes late for a pre-trial hearing, the infamous Gowanus bunny hoarder blames her 200 rabbits. Â Brooklyn Judge Curtis Farber wasnât having it and told Dorota Trec, 36, who faces charges for animal abuse for keeping nearly 200 rabbits in squalid conditions, that he would revoke her bail if she was late again on Thursday.
âYour honor, I actually worked in the morning,â Trec, who is acting as her own lawyer, told the judge. âI had to feed my rabbits. Do you want me to abandon my rabbits?â
Judge Farber sharply responded, âYou told me you were feeding the rabbits this morning. You willfully disregarded and impeded this trial because you chose to do what you wanted to do.â
Dorota Trec complained the security line at the court house was too long. Â “That’s an impossibility” Judge Farber snapped back. Â “I had them check. Â Miss Trec you walked in at 10:17am. Â If you are not here in this courtroom at 9:30 tomorrow morning, I will revoke your bail without further consideration.â
âWhat were the instructions I gave you yesterday morning?â Farber said in a raised voice. âMs. Trec what were the instructions I gave you?â
âYou chose to come in at your own leisure,â he said.
Trec was first arrested nearly two years ago for keeping hundreds of bunnies in the lot of a Gowanus tire shop. Sheâs turned down plea offers and is going to trial.
Jury selection is expected to begin Wednesday afternoon.
