Footage has emerged of a Georgia sheriff calling police when a Burger King restaurant allegedly messed up his order.

The incident was caught on bodycam and shows Craig Owens Sr summoning deputies to the outlet in Cobb County – located in the Atlanta metro area.

It happened in March 2023, but the footage has just been released on Facebook by David Cavender, his rival for sheriff in an upcoming election.

The video appears to show the deputies racing to the scene with their lights and sirens on.

Sheriff Owens asks them to get the name of the store’s owner or manager so he can make an official complaint, as the “food was wrong”.

Staff had reportedly refused to swap the order and locked the door due to fears for their safety.

One clip shows the sheriff sitting in his car telling the deputies: “I want to order her [his wife] a Whopper with no mayo, cut in half, right?”

“I’ll get all the names I can,” one of the deputies tells him.

They gain access to the locked Burger King and the video later shows them handing over a piece of paper with names on.

“You didn’t tell him who I was, did you?” the sheriff asks.

His rival for the job, Mr Cavender, claimed the footage showed an abuse of power and a waste of police resources.

In a statement reported by local site WKTC, Sheriff Owens denied that claim and said it was a matter any citizen had the right to report.

“I was not in my uniform, and at no point in my interaction with the staff did I identify myself as a member of the law enforcement community,” he said.

“At no point did I indicate my position, nor did I ask the responders to do anything that they would not, had not, or have not done for anyone else who makes a business dispute call.”
