In Charlottesville Virginia, jurors are heading back to court for a second week in the trial pitting the University of Virginia against Rolling Stone magazine over their 2014 story about a rape at the university.
The story was the account of a woman identified only as “Jackie.” In the account titled “A Rape on Campus,” she claimed seven men gang raped her. A later investigation revealed no evidence to back up her claim.
University administrator Nicole Eramo is seeking $7.5 million in compensatory damages and $350,000 in punitive damages for her article portrayal as UVA’s callous front, more interested in the school’s image than in justice.
This week, the jurors may be shown a video of “Jackie’s” deposition which was taken in April. The trial, which began last Monday, could last 12 days.
