Morgan Geyser

Morgan Geyser was sentenced to spend the maximum 40 years in a mental hospital for stabbing a classmate in suburban Milwaukee on May 31, 2014. Geyser pleaded guilty to attempted first-degree intentional homicide in a deal with prosecutors to avoid prison. Geyser and Anissa Weier lured the classmate into the woods in a park and repeatedly stabbed her with a kitchen knife. Geyser stabbed the classmate 19 times while Weier urged her on, according to investigators. The classmate was left for dead but she crawled out of the woods and got help from a passing bicyclist. She and her attackers were all 12 at the time. Weier was sentenced to 25 years in a mental hospital and after seven years in custody, Weier was granted early release and will be under supervision until age 37. When sentenced, Geyser’s attorneys argued in court documents that Geyser suffered from schizophrenia and psychotic spectrum disorder, making her prone to delusions and paranoid beliefs. A psychiatrist hired by her attorneys had previously testified that Geyser believed she could communicate telepathically with Slender Man and could see and hear other fictional characters. Geyser, now 21, has now spent nearly half of her life in custody. This is the third time she has filed a release request, after having one denied and withdrawing a second petition in 2022. Three court-appointed doctors have spoken with Geyser and put together a report recommending if she should, or shouldn't, leave the mental health institution.
