Marshella Chidester

On April 20, 2024 Marshella Chidester drove her SUV into the wall of the Swan Creek Boat Club in Berlin Township, Michigan where a child's birthday party was being held. Lana Dodds, eight, and Zayn Dodds, five, both died in the wreckage, while their mother, Mariah Dodds and elder brother, Jayden Dodds, were both left fighting for their lives. Mariah Dodds sustained broken ribs, a collapsed lung, and cuts and bruises while her son broke his legs, some of his ribs, and fractured his skull. Chidester is charged with eight charges, including two counts of second-degree murder, two counts of OWI causing death and four counts of OWI causing serious injury. Chidester's defense attorney claimed that Chidester has suffered from 'epileptic-type seizures' in her legs since November. He also claimed she had only consumed a bowl of chili and a glass of wine four hours prior to the collision. Prosecution say that when Chidester slammed her vehicle into the building, she travelled a further 25 feet inside because of her speed. They also say that Chidester had a history of substance misuse, which her friends and family have confirmed. Prosecution stated that Chidester showed no signs of having a seizure before the crash and that her blood alcohol level was 'significantly over the legal limit'.
