Joseph McAlpin, 31, is charged with aggravated murder and other crimes in the April 14, 2017 slayings of Michael Kuznik and Trina Tomola. Kuznik and Tomola owned Mr. Cars Inc. in Collinwood. Kuznik’s father founded the dealership in 1977 and Kuznik took over in 2005. Prosecutors said McAlpin wanted quick cash, planned to rob the dealership and enlisted the help of two others to help him drive the cars away. The prosecution said the group planned to sell the cars and split the money. McAlpin shot both Kuznik and Tomola at close range during the robbery, prosecutors said.
