INDIA – Housewife Usha Devi, 45, was attacked in her village in Samastipur, Bihar, northern India. She was dragged out of her house and left unconscious in a violent attack by a gang of 25 men who believed she was guilty of killing her husband, Ashok Paswan, 50, following an instance of domestic violence. Usha was at home with her children, on October 31, when a group of men entered her house and dragged her outside.
She was eventually knocked unconscious. Usha was taken to hospital where she was admitted and treated for her injuries.
Almost 100 people stood by and watched, but nobody stepped in to help. One bystander even filmed the horrific incident.
Deputy Superintendent Tanveer Ahmed, of Bihar Police said: ‘We are currently investigating the case. We know the two (husband and wife) had an argument which turned violent. She hit her husband with a rod, and then he died. We are waiting for the post-mortem report. The woman is currently being treated at the hospital for her injuries. Once she’s well we will continue our investigation and find out what has happened here and we will take due action against the woman and the mob if necessary.’
