Steve Casaus was guilty in the beating death of his 9-year-old stepson, Omaree Varela. Casaus and his wife, Synthia Varela Casaus, were both charged in Omaree's death. The 9-year-old was found dead in his home back in December 2013. An autopsy showed Omaree had been kicked, beaten and stomped to death. Right after the crime, police charged his mother with child abuse resulting in death. His stepfather was indicted five months later. Prosecutors said he didn't kill Omaree, but was there and did nothing to stop it. 'Essentially, he knew about it, and under some theories participated in it, or was negligent, or knew the probability for it to happen and didn't do anything'.
