Shamar Duncan is charged with the murder of 26-year-old Simmie Poetsema, a Dutch commando who was killed in downtown Indianapolis on Aug. 27, 2022. in Indiana to train at Muscatatuck Urban Training Center, near North Vernon in Jennings County. He was a veteran of the war in Afghanistan, having served in the evacuation of Kabul. He was in Indianapolis with other soldiers when they got into a fight with three local men. One of the local men, allegedly Duncan, shot at the soldiers from a truck. Poetsema was killed, and two other soldiers were injured.
