Michael Colucci is accused of murdering his wife Sara Lynn Moore-Colucci on May 20, 2015. During his 2018 trial, prosecutors argued Michael strangled Sara to death outside their South Carolina jewelry business. His defense claimed she hung herself with a garden hose on a fence as Michael sat in their car less than 25 feet away. However, jurors could not unanimously agree and a mis-trial was declared. A forensic pathologist ruled the cause of death was asphyxia by neck compression, consistent with strangulation, but could not reach a conclusion on the manner of death. In the trial forensic pathologist testified she simply did not have enough information to rule that the death resulted in either a homicide or suicide, and ultimately concluded the manner of death undetermined. All 12 jurors agreed he was not guilty of murder. However, the jury was split on the option of voluntary manslaughter for which 10 had chosen not guilty and 2 had chosen guilty. Colucci's stepfather, Ivo Colucci, allegedly shot and killed his wife at their North Charleston jewelry store in 2017. The 84-year-old died in 2020 and avoided a murder conviction after being ruled unfit to stand trial because of dementia. In May of 2007, Moore-Colucci's first husband, Michael Vieria, died by stabbing himself 26 times after doing 'mushrooms' with a group of friends. Hours before her death, Moore-Colucci visited Vieria's grave. |
