Marcia Thompson is accused of charged with first-degree murder in the shooting death of her husband Terry Thompson on August 9, 2019 at their Florida home. There were six gunshot wounds to Terry's body and nine shell casings fired in the living room. The couple's two children were home but did not witness the shooting. Marcia claimed the shooting happened after Terry threatened to slit her throat and kill her during an argument. Marcia's defense claims she 'acted in self-defense and suffered from both battered spouse syndrome and post-traumatic stress disorder'. However, her motion to dismiss the charges under Florida’s Stand Your Ground law was denied. Terry Thompson was shot in the back and posed no threat to his wife when she fatally wounded. Terry Thompson was likely laying on the couch when he was first shot. On several occasions, documented in police reports over the years and in several states, Terry Thompson threatened to end women's lives or to commit other violence against them. In 2011, he was arrested for battery after allegedly punching Marcia Thompson several times in the face, then dragging her inside their Miami residence as she held on to their 1-year-old child. Those charges were eventually dropped. |
