Kayle Fleischauer

Kayle Fleischauer, 44, is charged with second-degree reckless homicide in the death of his 19-year-old son Chase in April 2018 at his New Richmond Township home. A jury found Fleischauer guilty in the death last year, but later last summer, a judge ordered a new trial after discovering juror misconduct. Prosecutors allege the son and his father got into some sort of altercation after a night of dinner and drinking before a pistol went off, fatally striking the teen in the head. Fleischauer's defense team argues it was not a crime; instead that Chase was intoxicated and shot himself. Prosecutors say their evidence will show that Chase did not shoot himself, pointing to the pistol that was found more than 10 feet from the body. Defense Attorney Earl Gray told the jury they had conducted their own testing with a robot that can show how the gun landed where it did in the home.
