Hernandez Govan faces charges of conspiracy to commit first-degree murder, first-degree murder, and attempted first-degree murder. Govan is accused of planning the murder of Young Dolph, whose real name is Adolph Thornton Jr., who was killed on November 17, 2021, when bullets were fired into Makeda's Homemade Butter Cookies in Memphis. Young Dolph would often visit the cookie shop when in Memphis. An autopsy report said he was found with at least 24 wounds. Corneilus Smith admitted to his role in the assassination. A jury found Justin Johnson guilty of Young Dolph's murder. During Johnson's trial, it was alleged that Big Jook, the brother of famed Memphis rapper Yo Gotti, put out a $100,000 hit on members of PRE. It is alleged that Govan recruited Smith and Johnson and instructed them to carry out the hit that resulted in the death of Young Dolph. Smith and Johnson were both to receive $50,000 and that each would give $10,000 to Govan for 'masterminding' the hit. Smith and Johnson used a stolen white Mercedes-Benz in Young Dolph's murder which was later discovered outside an abandoned home next door to Govan's house. Big Jook whose real name is Anthony Mims, died prior to Justin Johnson's trial after being shot in Memphis on January 13, 2024. Police are still looking for suspects in that murder. Two months before his arrest in November 2022, Govan's daughter, a rapper who went by the stage name Lotta Cash Desoto, died in a shooting in Houston, Texas. Following Young Dolph's murder, Govan entered into a Proffer agreement with investigators that allowed him to give authorities information without anything he said being used against him. Govan did not testify at Johnson's trial, though he could have. |
