Gerald Dowling Jr. pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter and could face a prison sentence ranging from three to 16 years. The incident occurred on July 11, 2024 and involved three teenagers who stole a car left running with a sleeping child inside on the far east side of Columbus. The child's mother, 29-year-old Alexa Stakely, was picking up her son from a babysitter and attempted to stop the theft by jumping onto the hood of the car. Tragically, she was thrown off and later succumbed to her injuries.
