Karanji Reese is accused of opening fire at the Elleven45 Lounge in Buckhead, Atlanta at just after 2 a.m. on May 12, 2024, resulting in the deaths of Marion Crayton and Nakyris Ridley, and injuring four others. Since the shooting, the lounge agreed to close for 60 days after city officials began calling for its closure. The owners say that new security measures will include a digital age verification process and the installation of 33-zone metal detectors. Following the shooting the City of Atlanta filed motions to have the Elleven45 Lounge shut down. An investigation into their licensing and into some of the incidents that have taken place since they have been in operation. The investigation could result in the establishment losing its licenses, and even some potential jail time, if the manager and owners are found to be negligent and criminally liable. The parents of Marion Crayton filed a lawsuit against Elleven45 Lounge's manager, ownership, property management company and 15 unidentified defendants related to security and other duties. They allege that somebody was allowed into the venue with a gun which means that somebody failed in the basic duty and responsibility to keep customers and patrons safe at the Elleven45 Lounge. The lawsuit counts include three types of negligence, alongside premises liability. |
