Adolfo Serrano is charged with the death of Precinct 7 Deputy Constable Jennifer Chavis, who was killed on April 2, 2022 when Serrano's vehicle crashed into the back of her patrol unit, causing it to burst into flames. Chavis was trying to pull over a driver and was waiting in a fully marked patrol car on the side of the 7200 block of the South Sam Houston Parkway at Fondren. Serrano was driving a Ford F-550 when he failed to drive in a single lane and hit Chavis in the rear. Serrano is facing charges of intoxication manslaughter of a peace officer and faces a minimum of 15 years in prison.
