Raul Valle was charged with murder and three counts of assault after a fight between teens from rival schools in Shelton, Connecticut escalated into a deadly stabbing of 17-year-old James McGrath. Valle, who was 16 at the time allegedly became involved in a fight on May 14, 2022 at a house party for St. Joseph's High School students. After that confrontation ended, Valle and a group of friends allegedly drove to a second party about a mile away, where students from Shelton High School were gathered. There a brawl started in which Valle allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed four people. In July 2025 Valle was found not guilty in the deadly stabbing. However, jurors could not reach a verdict on charges of reckless manslaughter and reckless assault. Valle's attorney has filed a motion to dismiss thes lesser charges. The defense claims the state failed to prove he was not acting in self-defense at the time of the stabbing. It also argues that retrying Valle for the reckless manslaughter and assault charges would bring up the same issue, which is unconstitutional under the double jeopardy law. Valle’s lawyer also note that he was 16 at the time of the stabbing and has been under prosecution for nearly four years. |
