Randy Vega faces multiple charges, including two counts of vehicular homicide and driving under the influence, in connection with the November 2023 crash that took the lives of Anna Posso, 41, and her one-year-old son Johnathan Devia. Octavio Paz, the husband and father of the victims had been in Chattanooga for just one day and were headed to the Tennessee Aquarium when they stopped at a crosswalk, waiting for the signal to cross the street but their vehicle was hit from behind. While Vega is the only person criminally charged, court records show he was not the only driver involved. A wrongful death lawsuit filed by the victims' family alleges that Vega’s vehicle was struck from behind by a truck driven by Erlanger doctor Patrick McGinty moments before the fatal collision.. According to Chattanooga Police, Vega was intoxicated at the time of the crash.
