Nicholas Kassotis

Nicholas James Kassotis, also known as Nicholas Killian James Stark, faces twelve charges including malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault, tampering with evidence, and removal of body parts from scene of death or dismemberment of his second wife Mindi Mebane Kassotis, 40, in November 2022. Her dismembered body was found by hunters on December 2, 2022 in multiple places of the Portal Hunting Club in Riceboro about 40 miles southwest of Savannah. The body parts were scattered throughout a 3-mile radius in the woods which covered areas in Liberty and McIntosh Counties. The remains were placed in the area on or around November 27, 2022. With the FBI's assistance DNA swabs were used for comparison to the profile created through genealogy DNA. Her remains were identified on May 11, 2023. Nicholas was seeing another woman before prosecutors say he killed Mrs Mebane. Kassotis went on to marry that woman in April 2023. A Georgia Bureau of Investigation Special Agent investigating the body parts spoke to the woman and to Kassotis. The agent was told that his wife had died probably a year prior while pregnant and that she had died due to pregnancy. Kassotis was arrested on May 12, 2023, in Lancaster, Pennsylvania. Kassotis ended his relationship with his first wife owing her $1.5 million. Mindi and Nicholas married in Virginia in 2016 and were living in Savannah at the time of Mindi's death. It is believed that this debt led to him and his second wife going on the run together.
