Former University of Kentucky student athlete Laken Snelling is accused of leaving her newborn in a trash bag found in her closet. Snelling is charged with abuse of a corpse, tampering with physical evidence, and concealing the birth of an infant. Lexington police responded to a 911 call on August 27, 2025 in which the caller reported finding a baby boy whose body was 'cold to the touch' inside a trash bag in the closet of Snelling's home. Authorities identified Snelling as the biological mother of the baby boy. Snelling admitted to giving birth when interviewed by officers, and to cleaning up all evidence and throwing it in a black trash bag, 'including the infant, who was wrapped in a towel'.
