Ihsan Ali and his wife Zahraa Ali were accused of trying to strangle their daughter to death. The Iraqi immigrant couple's teenage daughter had refused an arranged marriage with a much older man in Iraq. Outside of her high school, her father Ihsan tried to strangle her to death in an attempted honour killing. The victim's boyfriend, a passerby and classmates, fought off Ihsan Ali saving the girl’s life. The incident was captured by police bodycams. Ihsan Ali was charged with attempted murder, attempted kidnapping, and assault in the October 18, 2024 attack. The girl's mother, Zahraa Ali was charged with attempted murder. She was also involved in the fracas and she had also allegedly attempted to murder the girl four days earlier. Reports allege that the couple had plotted to put the rebellious girl onto a plane back to Iraq. They had also reported the teen as a runaway. Zahraa Ali was arrested when trying to cross into Canada. The girl’s father, Ihsan, was found guilty of assault and unlawful imprisonment. The mother, Zahraa, was only found guilty of violating a court order.
