Hamza Smajlovic pleading guilty to shooting his girlfriend's parents on November 1, 2024, killing Ruth Robison and critically injuring her husband, Tony. Hamza Smajlovic and Jasmyne Robison shared a home together but Hamza had long been abusive towards Jasmyne. On October 30, 2024, Smajlovic had allegedly strangled Jasmyne 'almost to death', so Jasmyne had reached her breaking point and was intending to end the nine-year, abusive relationship. The Robisons went to the Des Moines home where Smajlovic and their daughter Jasmyne lived, helping their daughter pack her belongings when Smajlovic opened fire shooting both Ruth and Tony in the head. Ruth was killed in the attack and Tony survived with permanent scars, Jasmyne was not injured in the shooting.
