Christopher Wolfenbarger

Christopher Wolfenbarger is accused in the cold case murder of his wife, Melissa Wolfenbarger who disappeared in 1998. Melissa Wolfenbarger was the daughter of a convicted serial killer Carl Patton who killed five people across the state of Georgia, three of which were part of the infamous 'Flint River Murders'. Following Carl Patton's convictions, Carl was suspected of killing his own daughter, but he was eventually cleared. Melissa was last heard from on Thanksgiving 1998 when she called her family to make plans for Christmas that year. But she never showed up. Her husband Christopher Wolfenbarger has a history of domestic violence against Melissa. He failed to report Melissa missing or tell her family that she was gone. On April 29, 1999, the severed and bleached head of a woman was found wrapped in a garbage bag in a dumpster in a wooded area. On June 3, 1999 the dismembered remains of the same woman, excluding her torso, were found in black trash bags in another dumpster. The remains were cut up with a saw, transported, and disposed of in the location they were found. It was also noted the remains were found close to a glass company where Christopher used to work at in the late 1990s. Christopher was fired from this company after being suspected of stealing a reciprocal saw. At the time, the remains were misidentified as belonging to those of a man who was another missing person. The remains weren't positively identified by DNA as being Melissa Wolfenbarger's remains until 2003. Melissa's case was the first one to be featured on the podcast Zone 7, when it launched in February 2023. In a stunning turn of events, over a year later in April 2024, a listener who heard the episode reached out to the presenter Sheryl McCollum and shared a crucial bit of information. On August 6, 2024, Christopher was charged with murder and felony murder in the death of his wife, Melissa Dawn Wolfenbarger.
