Christa Gail Pike is the only woman on death row in Tennessee. A judge is set to review evidence from the planned execution of Christa Pike, which was a failed attempt on 30 September 2026. Pike was given two doses of pentobarbital, a lethal drug used by the US state in executions. Pike, who was 18 when the crime was committed, had been sentenced to death for killing her 19-year-old classmate Colleen Slemmer in 1995 on the University of Tennessee Agriculture campus after she thought Slemmer was trying to steal her boyfriend. Pike's attorneys filed a motion in June challenging the constitutionality of the state's lethal injection protocol after the failed execution of Tony Carruthers.
