{"id":9973,"date":"2017-12-11T18:50:37","date_gmt":"2017-12-11T23:50:37","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=9973"},"modified":"2017-12-11T18:50:37","modified_gmt":"2017-12-11T23:50:37","slug":"bali-jailbreak-us-inmate-escapes-notorious-kerobokan-prison","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2017\/12\/11\/bali-jailbreak-us-inmate-escapes-notorious-kerobokan-prison\/","title":{"rendered":"Bali jailbreak: US inmate escapes notorious Kerobokan prison"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">A US man held for drug possession has escaped from Bali&#8217;s most notorious prison and is on the run on the Indonesian resort island.<\/p>\n<p>Local media named the fugitive as Chrishan Beasley, arrested in August for carrying 5g (0.18oz) of hashish.<\/p>\n<p>The 32-year old made his escape by scaling a prison wall with a fellow inmate who was recaptured immediately.<\/p>\n<p>Indonesia has very strict anti-drugs laws and frequently arrests foreigners on drug-related charges.<\/p>\n<p>The maximum sentence for drug trafficking is death.<\/p>\n<p>Beasley and the other inmate reportedly escaped by climbing over the prison wall with a ladder from a construction project within the prison.<\/p>\n<p>Other reports suggested the two had cut a hole in the roof with a hacksaw first.<\/p>\n<p>The US citizen was still awaiting sentencing and it is not clear how much jail time he was likely to get.<\/p>\n<p>The other prisoner, also from the US, has been named by media as 57-year-old Paul Anthony Hoffman who was serving a 20-month sentence for armed robbery.<\/p>\n<p>Hoffman was caught immediately after making the escape while Beasley managed to get away.<\/p>\n<p>In June, there was another jailbreak at Kerobokan, when\u00a0<a class=\"story-body__link\" href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-asia-40299713\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">four inmates escaped through a tunnel<\/a>\u00a0they dug under a wall.<\/p>\n<p>Kerobokan prison is also where some of the so-called Bali Nine are held, a group of Australians convicted of drug-smuggling.<\/p>\n<p>Despite protest from Australian authorities, two of the group were executed in 2015, while the others are being held in prisons across Indonesia.<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/world-asia-42305164\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bbc.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">A US man held for drug possession has escaped from Bali&#8217;s most notorious prison and is on the run on the Indonesian resort island.
