{"id":9676,"date":"2017-10-28T11:15:02","date_gmt":"2017-10-28T15:15:02","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=9676"},"modified":"2017-10-28T11:15:02","modified_gmt":"2017-10-28T15:15:02","slug":"jailed-drunk-plane-passenger-face-charges-released","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2017\/10\/28\/jailed-drunk-plane-passenger-face-charges-released\/","title":{"rendered":"Jailed drunk plane passenger to face more charges when released"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A drunken airline passenger jailed in Canada this week will face a drink-driving charge when she gets out of jail.<\/p>\n<p>Bridget Hanley, from north Manchester, was sentenced to 20 days behind bars after attacking a fellow passenger and TUI crew member mid-air on a flight to Cancun, Mexico.<\/p>\n<p>Pilots were forced to make an emergency landing in Quebec City, and the 34-year-old was arrested by local police.<\/p>\n<p>She faced charges of \u2018disturbing the peace, mischief, and jeopardising the safety of an aircraft\u2019, following the incident on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p>Hanley, of\u00a0Blackley, a suburb of Manchester in the UK, pleaded guilty in court and will serve the time in a provincial detention facility in the Qu\u00e9bec City region.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s since been revealed that once she has completed her 20-day sentence, she will be handed over to police in Ontario \u2013 another Canadian province \u2013 where she is wanted for unrelated outstanding charges, including driving while her ability was impaired, failing or refusing to provide sample and failing to re-attend court.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesman for the Halton Regional Police Service confirmed the offences were alleged to have taken place in June of this year.<\/p>\n<p>After landing in Quebec, Hanley was detained by S\u00fbret\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec, the predominantly French-speaking province\u2019s police department, who formally named Ms Hanley and confirmed the outcome of the court hearing to the M.E.N.<\/p>\n<p>They said that the airline also intends to file a civil lawsuit against her.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s understood passengers \u2013 including a former rugby player and a police officer \u2013 helped to detain Hanley following the outburst.<\/p>\n<p>They sat with her until the flight landed in Quebec, where she was handed over to S\u00fbret\u00e9 du Qu\u00e9bec.<\/p>\n<p>A statement from the force following the incident read: \u201cOur major Crimes Division is investigating a case whereby the passenger of an international flight was causing a disturbance on board, forcing the pilot to land in Quebec City.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe-34-year-old woman was arrested and will appear in Qu\u00e9bec Superior court this morning. She may be facing charges of disturbing the peace, mischief and jeopardising the safety of an aircraft.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDuring the flight this individual was under the influence of alcohol and involved in an altercation with another passenger as well as a flight-crew member.
