Kirk Nurmi, who headed Arias&#8217; legal team during her 2013 and 2015 murder trials, violated attorney-client privilege and unjustly enriched himself by publishing a tell-all book about the case before Arias was able to appeal her conviction and life sentence for the murder of her lover, Travis Alexander.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">Asked to comment on the suit, Nurmi responded in an emailed statement that when Arias failed at controlling the case, she tried to ruin his career and his reputation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">&#8220;Standing up to the abuse Ms. Arias imparted upon me over the years was an important part of my personal transformation and I will continue to fight this battle with vigor as I defend against this lawsuit, which is best viewed as a continuation of Ms. Arias\u2019 pattern of attacking men whom she feels have wronged her,&#8221; he wrote in his statement.<\/p>\n<div id=\"ad-position-183\" class=\"partner-placement partner-spike\" data-monetization-id=\"native-article_link\" data-monetization-sizes=\"fluid,3,3\">\u00a0<span class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><strong>\u25ba Nov. 17: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation-now\/2016\/11\/17\/jodi-arias-attorney-faces-suspension-after-writing-book\/94050076\/\">Jodi Arias attorney faces suspension after writing book<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><strong>\u25ba February 2016: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation-now\/2016\/02\/16\/jodi-arias-uses-vulgar-term\/80443682\/\">Jodi Arias uses vulgar term, loses contact-visit privileges<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"p-text\">&#8220;Of course, no one person has suffered at the hands of Ms. Arias (more) than Mr. Alexander, and I look forward to clearing the air on all the derogatory assertions that Ms. Arias made about him as I defend against the outrageous claims made in this lawsuit.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">Nurmi&#8217;s book, which he titled <em>Trapped with Ms. Arias\u00a0<\/em>in part because Arias hated being called &#8220;Ms. Arias,&#8221; already has led to Nurmi&#8217;s disbarment.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">In\u00a0November, Nurmi surrendered his license to practice law after lawyer\u00a0Karen Clark filed a\u00a0State Bar of Arizona complaint on Arias&#8217; behalf because of the book.<\/p>\n<div class=\"partner-outstream\">\u00a0<span class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><strong>\u25ba January 2016: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation-now\/2016\/01\/08\/complaints-filed-against-prosecutor-jodi-arias-case\/78496778\/\">Complaints filed against prosecutor in Jodi Arias case<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><strong>\u25ba June 2016: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2015\/06\/23\/jodi-arias-restitution-travis-alexander-family\/29148029\/\">Judge orders Jodi Arias to pay $32,000 to victim&#8217;s family<\/a><\/span><\/div>\n<p class=\"p-text\">Clark also has filed a complaint for Arias against the case&#8217;s prosecutor, Juan Martinez, in which she alleges Martinez fed information about the Arias trial and a holdout juror to a blogger with whom he was rumored to have a romantic entanglement. That complaint is still pending with the State Bar.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">Martinez has fended off five bar complaints since the Arias trials, the last as recently as September. One of the dismissed complaints related to a book Martinez published about the case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">Clark and Ralph Adams, Clark&#8217;s husband and law partner, filed the current lawsuit Tuesday against Nurmi.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\"><span class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><strong>\u25ba April 2015: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2015\/04\/14\/exclusive-jodi-arias-attorney\/25795141\/\">Exclusive one-on-one with Jodi Arias&#8217; attorney<\/a><\/span><br \/>\n<span class=\"exclude-from-newsgate\"><strong>\u25ba April 2015: <\/strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/nation\/2015\/04\/13\/jodi-arias-sentencing\/25691575\/\">Jodi Arias sentenced to natural life in prison<\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">It claims Nurmi violated attorney-client privilege by revealing details about Arias and her trial against her wishes. It\u00a0pinpoints passages in the book that it claims are personally disparaging to Arias or in violation of the rules of ethical conduct for lawyers.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">The suit also claims that Nurmi was obsessed with the sexual aspects of the case.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p-text\">Arias killed Alexander, her sometime boyfriend, during a tryst June 4, 2008, at his Mesa, Ariz. house.
