Jim Carrey\u2019s lawyers have won a bid to go public with his tragic ex-girlfriend\u2019s medical records as part of a wrongful death suit filed against the funnyman. \u00a0A judge granted the actor\u2019s legal team the right to use the records of Cathriona White, who died at the age of 30 after overdosing on prescription drugs.<\/p>\n
The Irish makeup artist\u2019s estranged husband Mark Burton and her mother Brigid Sweetmen have taken legal action against the 55-year-old, claiming he used his \u201cwealth, influence and celebrity status\u201d to provide her with the pills that ended her life, but Carrey\u2019s lawyer Raymond Boucher maintains the young woman was given the medication after she underwent a breast augmentation.<\/p>\n
\u201cOne of the issues is her prescription medication,\u201d Boucher told the court. \u201cWe know she had breast surgery that month, we know she had oxycodone prescribed to her that month.\u201d<\/p>\n
According to The Telegraph, lawyers for White\u2019s family attempted to stop the release of the records on privacy grounds but Judge Deirdre Hill determined in Los Angeles Superior Court on Tuesday, they should be shared.<\/p>\n
The information released will also include whether or not White had any sexually transmitted diseases prior to dating the star in 2012. Her family has alleged Carrey gave her type one and two of the herpes virus.<\/p>\n
According to Boucher, allowing White\u2019s medical records into the trial will prove Carrey was not responsible for infecting White and did not provide her with any pain medication.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe most important thing is we want the medication evidence,\u201d he revealed. \u201cWe want to be able to establish that Mr. Carrey absolutely did not transmit any herpes and he did not give her his pain medication and she could access her own.\u201d<\/p>\n
But the family\u2019s lawyer Michael Avenatti believes the records will show otherwise.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe are pleased because now the same standard will apply to Mr Carrey,\u201d Avenatti noted. \u201cHe should be very nervous.\u201d<\/p>\n
White, who dated the funnyman on and off from 2012 to 2015, died at her L.A. home in September of 2015. She was later found to have taken a lethal dose of Ambien, Propranolol and Percocet.<\/p>\n
Carrey, who has denied all charges against him, faces a 20-day trial for his alleged role in her death under the Drug Dealer Liability Act. The trial will begin in April.<\/p>\n
