{"id":8800,"date":"2017-08-05T06:14:03","date_gmt":"2017-08-05T10:14:03","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=8800"},"modified":"2017-08-05T06:14:03","modified_gmt":"2017-08-05T10:14:03","slug":"oxford-university-murder-suspect-arrested-us","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2017\/08\/05\/oxford-university-murder-suspect-arrested-us\/","title":{"rendered":"Oxford University murder suspect arrested in US"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"story-body__introduction\">An Oxford University employee and a US professor suspected of killing a man in Chicago have handed themselves in.<\/p>\n<p>Somerville College senior treasury assistant Andrew Warren, 56, handed himself in nearly 2,000 miles away in San Francisco while Prof Wyndham Lathem, 42, gave himself up in Oakland.<\/p>\n<p>The pair have been accused of fatally stabbing Trenton Cornell-Duranleau, 26, in Mr Lathem&#8217;s Chicago flat on 27 July.<\/p>\n<p>The killing triggered a US-wide manhunt for the suspects.<\/p>\n<p>Mr Warren and Mr Lathem are due in separate courts in California in the coming days where authorities will seek to have them transferred to Chicago.<\/p>\n<p>Chicago Police Department (CPD) spokesman Anthony Guglielmi tweeted that both suspects were now in police custody in Oakland.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement, Chicago police said: &#8220;Both individuals will be held accountable for their actions and we hope today&#8217;s arrest brings some comfort for the victim&#8217;s family.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Wyndham Lathem is a microbiology professor at Northwestern University in Illinois, who specialises in the bacteria that caused the bubonic plague.<\/p>\n<p>He sent family and friends a video in which he apologised, police said.<\/p>\n<p>Supervisory deputy US Marshall Frank Conroy said Mr Warren had handed himself into a police station in San Francisco, while Mr Lathem gave himself up in Oakland.<\/p>\n<figure id=\"attachment_8801\" aria-describedby=\"caption-attachment-8801\" style=\"width: 624px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><a href=\"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/trenton-cornell-duranleau.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"wp-image-8801 size-full\" src=\"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/trenton-cornell-duranleau.jpg\" alt=\"Trenton Cornell Duranleau\" width=\"624\" height=\"351\" srcset=\"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/trenton-cornell-duranleau.jpg 624w, https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2017\/08\/trenton-cornell-duranleau-300x169.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 624px) 100vw, 624px\" \/><\/a><figcaption id=\"caption-attachment-8801\" class=\"wp-caption-text\">Hairstylist Trenton Cornell-Duranleau was originally from Michigan, but was living in Chicago at the time of his death.<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>A Thames Valley Police spokesman said Mr Warren was reported missing on 25 July having left the UK the day before.<\/p>\n<p>Oxford University said it had been in contact with police in the UK about Mr Warren and was &#8220;ready to help the US investigating authorities in any way they need&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>The statement added: &#8220;Andrew Warren&#8217;s colleagues at Somerville College have now all been informed and are shocked to learn of the case.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Source: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bbc.co.uk\/news\/uk-40835894\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bbc.co.uk<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<div class=\"mh-excerpt\">An Oxford University employee and a US professor suspected of killing a man in Chicago have handed themselves in.
