{"id":8781,"date":"2017-08-02T16:56:50","date_gmt":"2017-08-02T20:56:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/?p=8781"},"modified":"2017-08-02T16:56:50","modified_gmt":"2017-08-02T20:56:50","slug":"cold-case-closed-man-sentenced-life-prison-26-years-murder","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/worldjusticenews.com\/news\/2017\/08\/02\/cold-case-closed-man-sentenced-life-prison-26-years-murder\/","title":{"rendered":"Cold Case Closed: Man sentenced to life in prison 26 years after murder"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>by Faith Jessie<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"datel&lt;iframe width=\">LAS VEGAS (KSNV NEWS3LV) \u2014\u00a0<\/span>A 1991 murder is solved after more than two decades, bringing closure for a Las Vegas family.\u00a0 Dale Bryant was sentenced to life in prison without parole on Wednesday for stabbing 50-year-old Carol Bishop to death in November of 1991.\u00a0 Bryant was already serving a life sentence for killing an Arkansas woman three months after killing Bishop.<\/p>\n<div id=\"sd-embed-0\" class=\"sd-media-embed sd-media-rendered\" data-debug=\"false\" data-index=\"0\" data-count=\"2\" data-embedtype=\"twitter\" data-embedfile=\"892826825079914496\">\u00a0This was a cold case that was reopened in 2012 as part of a grant funded an initiative to review cold cases. The investigation showed that Bryant&#8217;s prints matched a peppermint schnapps bottle and shot glass found in the kitchen of the murder scene.<\/div>\n<p>Bishop&#8217;s son and daughter took the stand on Wednesday to speak to the court about their mother and her life they say was taken away far too soon.<\/p>\n<p>They spoke with News 3 after the sentencing and said although it\u2019s taken many years, they are grateful to those who worked very hard to make it possible.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;My mom was killed way too soon obviously in such a violent manner and she was never able to see her two granddaughters who I know could have brought a lot of joy to her life,&#8221; said Carol&#8217;s daughter, Jolene Bishop. &#8220;There&#8217;s no reason to kill somebody, to take somebody&#8217;s life unless it&#8217;s self-defense, there was no reason for it.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;The biggest thing we are thankful for is the grant and the detectives, the retired detectives that actually worked on the case and pulled it out so that it wasn&#8217;t a cold case anymore,&#8221; said Carol&#8217;s son, Steve Todd Bishop.<\/p>\n<p>Jolene Bishop, her daughter Marisa, and her brother Steven Todd Bishop at RJC. The Siblings have waited 26 years for this day. @News3LV<\/p>\n<p>Bryant did speak up in court on Wednesday to offer an apology to the family.
